A Note from the President

The new mailbox posts have been installed – they certainly look nice. We have less than 25 left and will be ordering another 100. So if you your post looks sad, you can order a new one. We will be looking for "sad posts" in the next community inspection.

Everyone is enjoying the pool now that the hot weather has arrived. However, despite signs on the door into the clubhouse, we have a liability issue. People, especially children, are still coming into the clubhouse from the pool without drying off and without wearing
shoes. The floors in the bathrooms are tile and can be very slippery when wet. Also we see little footprints in water on the lobby hardwood floors (Candy dish). We have no problem with the candy, but
we do object to the water on the wood floors. So if you bring children to the pool, please make sure they have dried off and have shoes on before they come into the clubhouse.

Clubhouse Events

Book Club

This month the Tuesday Book Club will meet on Tuesday, August 2, at 1:00PM. The Book selection is "March" by Geraldine Brooks. Pat Sherman will lead the discussion.

Summer Fun Ice Cream Social

You are invited to a double treat on Thursday, August 4, at 3:00PM. Judith Valerie, a local storyteller, will be entertaining us with her fascinating stories. She is originally from England and has lived in many places around the world. Her experiences resulted in many different adventures as she relates in her stories of many thrills. Judith’s talents also include teaching yoga.

After storytelling, we’ll enjoy creamy ice cream and delicious cookies. You can make a sundae or even a sandwich with the cookies. Please join us for this fun event. Cost is $4.00 per person.

Water Aerobics

We will be having two classes in August. On MWF at 8:00am for an advanced class and at 9:15am for an intermediate class. Dates are August 1,3,5,8,10,12,17,19, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31 & September 2. Please use sign up sheet to register for these classes. Cost is $60.00.

Garden Club Meeting

The Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, August 9, at 9:30am at the clubhouse..

Non-Fiction Book Club

No August Meeting. Regular book club meetings will resume Sept. 20 at 7PM in the craft room of the clubhouse. If you would like to join us for the first time, please let Bonny or Verghese Chirayath know so they can give you the book title for September.

CO-ED Lunch

The August CO-ED Luncheon will be held on Monday, August 15 at 12:30PM. Judy Gray, Outreach Coordinator for SHIIP (Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program) will be our speaker about Medicare, Medicare supplements and long term insurance. Judy has been with the NC Dept. of Insurance since 1986 and joined SHIIP in 2001. She will be glad to answer any questions that you may have.
Biaggi’s will provide box lunches for this event. Make your choice from 5 sandwiches on the sign up sheet and please RSVP by August 1 to attend. Cost is $10.00 per person.

Upcoming Trips

Branson, Mo Trip – Oct 15 –23 $739.00
We still need 7 more people for this trip to go. Anyone that is a senior can join us. If you have a friend that would like to go, let them know they are welcome. Please call Peggy in the office with questions. Deadline to sign up has been extended to August 25.

Barn Dinner Theater - Nov. 1 - Bus Trip
We will have lunch and see a matinee showing of "Groovin", a 60’s & 70’s musical. Our bus leaves HP at 11:30am to get us there for the 1:00pm buffet lunch. After the 90 minute show, we will return to the clubhouse at approximately 5:30pm. Cost for this event is $72 per person. Look for sign-up in September.

Atlantic City, NJ Trip – Nov. 27-30, 2011
Pack your bags and join us for 4 days in exciting Atlantic City. Three nights lodging, 4 meals, and a $30 casino bonus are included in the $230 cost for this trip. We will travel in a spacious motor coach with video system and restroom. Deposit of $75 will hold your place for this trip. Trip must be paid in full by September 11.

End of Summer Party

We will be having an "End of Summer Party" on Saturday, August 27. Mark your calendars for this fun event. Enjoy games with your friends at the clubhouse and feast on ribs and chicken. There will also be watermelon for dessert– yummy! Sign up by August 15. Cost is $11.00

Watercolor Classes

Watercolor painting classes will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 22, 29, Oct. 6 & 13, 2011 at 10 am. The concentration will be on flowers. Registration will be in the September newsletter and will be limited to 12 people. The cost for all four classes will be $43.00.

Activity Fees

A lot of our activities include lunch, but
sometimes someone doesn’t want the lunch for various reasons. However, we do have to
charge a reservation fee of a minimum of $2.00 for each person who does not want the meal with the activity. The fee will vary depending upon the event and assure you of a seat.

Brickman Notes

Another Summer in The Piedmont of NC

As another summer comes to a close, we are looking forward to the fall. We are focusing on the weed control in the lawns, and pruning around the homes. We are continuing to make our rounds on the pruning by following a detailed breakdown of the property into 5 sections – each section being serviced in 1 week.

As the summer comes to an end, we are beginning to develop plans for the fall aeration and overseeding plan that will happen in early September – more specifics on the schedule next month.

We have continued to spot spray the lawns for the summer emerging weeds. With some of the drastic heat that we have experienced, we have begun to see some lawns go dormant for the summer – this is quite common, and once we cool back down the lawns will green back up.

During August we will continue to monitor the turf health, and make our plans for fall lawn renovations.

As always, continue to provide us with your feedback through the clubhouse office so that we can be sure to address your concerns.
